2-Day Lake Baikal Tours
More than a day trip — less than a week. A 2-day Lake Baikal tour from Irkutsk gives you overnight time at the lake, a full day of exploration, and a comfortable return. Private guide, hotel pickup, accommodation included.
Weekend Trips to Lake Baikal — 3 Routes, 1 Night
A 2-day tour is the most practical format for travelers who want a real Baikal experience without taking a full week off. You leave Irkutsk in the morning, arrive at the lake by afternoon, spend a night in a guesthouse or recreation center, explore all day, and return by evening of day two.
We offer three distinct 2-day routes from Irkutsk, each with its own character:
- Olkhon Island — the largest island on Lake Baikal, 300 km from Irkutsk. Two days of dramatic cliffs, sacred capes, wild beaches, and the iconic Shaman Rock. Best for those who want the full Baikal experience.
- Arshan — a mountain resort village 215 km from Irkutsk. Hot springs, Buddhist temples, a river waterfall, and Buryat cuisine. Best for those who want nature and culture together.
- Circum-Baikal Railway — a historic railway route along the lake's southwestern shore. Combine a walking or boat tour on day one with a second day at leisure or en route back. Best for history lovers and active travelers.
All routes are available as private tours for groups of 1–5 people. Pickup from your hotel, airport, or train station in Irkutsk is included.
Why a 2-Day Format Works
How to Choose the Right 2-Day Lake Baikal Tour
The right route depends on what you're looking for.
Choose Olkhon Island if this is your first time at Lake Baikal and you want to see the lake at its most dramatic. The 300 km drive from Irkutsk takes around 6 hours, including a ferry crossing to the island. On arrival you'll visit Shaman Rock and Cape Burhan — one of the most photographed spots on the lake. The second day takes you north to Cape Khoboy, the island's most remote and scenic point, with picturesque bays, sand dunes, and steep cliffs along the way. The tour includes dinner on day one and breakfast and lunch on day two.
Note: during peak season (late July – early August) the ferry queue can cause delays of several hours. In this case we arrange additional island transfers so your itinerary stays on track.
Choose Arshan if you want a mix of nature, culture, and relaxation. Located 215 km from Irkutsk in the Tunka Valley, Arshan sits at the foot of the Eastern Sayan mountains. The first day covers the panoramic viewpoint of the southernmost point of Baikal, the Buddhist complex Dashi Goman, the Kyngyrga waterfall, healing mineral springs, a Mongolian market, and a dinner of Buryat cuisine. The second day is spent at the hot springs — you'll visit a Buddhist temple, see a stone river, and swim in the thermal pools.
Choose the Circum-Baikal Railway if you've already seen Listvyanka and want something more active and off the beaten path. The historic railway runs through tunnels and along cliffs above the lake — a route best explored on foot or by boat in summer, and by hovercraft in winter.

A 2-day tour is my favourite format for first-time visitors. Olkhon in the morning light, a quiet evening at the guesthouse, Cape Khoboy before the crowds arrive — that's the version of Baikal most people never get to see on a day trip. Tell me your dates and I'll put together the right itinerary for you.
