Itinerary
You will meet your guide and begin the journey from Irkutsk to Olkhon in a comfortable vehicle. The estimated travel time is around 6 hours, covering a distance of 300 km. Along the way, there will be a break for lunch at a local café.
Afterward, you'll cross from the mainland to the island via the ice road. In winter, there are different ways to reach the island: by khivus (a hovercraft), by ferry, or by car on the ice. The mode of transport depends on the ice thickness.*
Upon reaching Khuzhir, the main village on Olkhon Island, you will check into a hotel or guesthouse.
After checking in, you'll head to one of the most stunning spots on Lake Baikal: Shaman Rock, also called Cape Burhan. Dinner will follow.
Meals - dinner.
* The official ice road between the mainland and the island is open depending on the ice thickness. However, the island is accessible year-round, regardless of ice conditions.
After breakfast, set off to explore the northern part of the island and visit Cape Khoboy, the northernmost point of Olkhon. Along the way, you'll discover some of the island's most stunning locations. You'll witness ice caves, splashes, and striking blue ice, as well as snow-covered mountain peaks, all while experiencing the lake's unique atmosphere. You'll also have the chance to capture photos with the clearest, purest, and most beautiful ice. After a picnic and a walk, you'll return to Khuzhir.
In the village, you can rent skates and glide across the largest and most stunning ice rink in the world. If you enjoy cycling, specially equipped bikes for ice riding are available. After a rewarding day, unwind in a traditional Russian sauna with birch brooms.
Meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Following breakfast, you'll embark on a journey to the most famous islands of the Small Sea, located in the southern part of the island.
You'll have the chance to witness unique patterns in the transparent, crystal-clear ice, with a thickness of 1.5 meters.
You simply have to visit the Buddhist stupa of the Great Awakening on Ogoi Island.
By prostrating before a stupa, we turn away from our egos and align ourselves with our enlightened nature. Through circumambulation—walking around the stupa in a clockwise direction while reciting prayers—we keep the image of enlightenment at the forefront of our minds.
A stupa is also a spiritual oasis, a place to renew the spirit, gather strength and hope, and connect with a deeper truth. Simply seeing a stupa, walking around it, or feeling the wind around it is a blessing.
It is most beneficial to circumambulate a stupa, walking clockwise at least three times, while reciting mantras or offering heartfelt prayers for the well-being of loved ones, the state of the world, or all sentient beings. Alternatively, you can simply sit in front of the stupa, generating good thoughts, compassion, and loving-kindness for all beings.
After lunch, you'll head to Kobylya Head Peninsula, where you can stroll through the picturesque landscapes of the frozen lake.
Return to Khuzhir. Dinner at the cafe.
Meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Once you've had breakfast, we'll head back to Irkutsk. The guide will take you to your hotel, the airport or the railway station.
Meals - breakfast
