Listvyanka or Lisvennichnoye is a small village on the shore of Lake Baikal at the source of the Angara River. It stretches along the lake for 5 km. Listvaynka is surrounded by mountains on three sides, giving it a majestic view. The history of the settlement dates back to the 17th century, where the origin of Listvyanka comes from the Russian word Listvennitsa or larch tree.

  • Distance: From Irkutsk to Listvyanka 70 km
  • Destination: Lake Baikal, Listvyanka village
Place

The Museum of Wooden Architecture is located on the right bank of the Angara River, 47 km from the city of Irkutsk. There are monuments of architectural heritage and various exhibits of high historical value. A large area of wooded land is filled with wooden structures that are replicas of buildings from historic Siberian villages, including houses, farms, churches and a school building. Take the opportunity to see and learn about life in old Siberia.

The museum is located at the entrance to the village of Listvyanka. Here you can learn about the origin and history of the lake. The museum has aquariums with different types of fish and the Baikal seal, as well as exhibitions on flora and fauna. You can also see the underwater life of the lake (VR glasses/virtual immersion) through the portholes of a submarine and visit the maximum depth of the lake, 1637 metres.

At the market you can find and buy some memorable souvenirs and sample delicious hot smoked or salted fish from the lake.

The church was built in 1846 by the Russian merchant Sibiryakov on the bank of the Angara River. Sibiryakov was saved by St. Nicholas during a terrible storm while crossing the lake. After the village of Listvyanka was founded, the church was moved to the shore of Lake Baikal. In 1957 the church was moved 500 metres inland to the Krestovaya Pad in Listvyanka. This was when the construction of the Irkutsk hydroelectric power station began. Simultaneously, a beautiful functioning church holds regular services.

The Chersky Stone is a viewpoint named after the famous Polish geologist Ivan Chersky. It is located at an altitude of more than 728 metres. The viewpoint can be reached on foot from the ski resort car park - a short walk of about one kilometre - or by cable car. From there you can enjoy a stunning view of southern Baikal, the Circum-Baikal Railway and the source of the Angara River with the Shaman Rock. The Shaman Rock is the natural monument of many legends and mysterious stories about Baikal.

Listvyanka and its surroundings have several interesting places for a traveller to see and it is an ideal destination for a remarkable and truly unique experience in Lake Baikal and Siberia.

After the tour to Listvyanka the guide will take you to your hotel, airport or railway station.
