Itinerary
Your journey to Lake Baikal begins in Irkutsk, where we’ll meet you at the airport, hotel, or train station.
During the 70-kilometer drive to the lake’s shore, you’ll experience Siberia’s unique charm through stunning landscapes and fascinating landmarks.
Keep an eye out for historic sites like the Angara Icebreaker (one of the world’s oldest preserved icebreakers) and the impressive Irkutsk Hydroelectric Power Station.
The Museum of Wooden Architecture. Located 47 kilometers from Irkutsk on the Angara River’s right bank, this open-air museum showcases Siberia’s architectural heritage.
Stroll through expansive wooded grounds featuring authentic replicas of 17th-19th century Siberian village life: traditional houses, farms, churches, and even a historic schoolhouse.
Each structure tells a story, offering a vivid glimpse into the daily lives, crafts, and traditions of Siberia’s early settlers.
Located at the entrance to Listvyanka, this museum is your gateway to understanding Baikal’s unique ecosystem, geological history, and legendary depths.
Explore the exhibits: Aquariums with endemic fish species and Baikal's iconic freshwater seals. Interactive installations, including a simulated submarine dive with porthole views of underwater life. Virtual Reality (VR) immersion that "transports" you to the lake’s deepest point — 1,637 meters below the surface.
Don’t miss the museum’s crown jewel: a detailed 3D model of Lake Baikal, illustrating its tectonic origins and unparalleled biodiversity.
Here you can find and buy memorable souvenirs and sample delicious hot smoked fish from the lake.
Built in 1846 on the banks of the Angara River by the Russian merchant Ksenofont Sibiryakov, this charming wooden church carries a tale of divine intervention. Legend says Sibiryakov commissioned it in gratitude after surviving a deadly storm on Lake Baikal, attributing his salvation to Saint Nicholas.
Originally constructed near the Angara, the church was later relocated to the shores of Lake Baikal following the establishment of Listvyanka village in the 17th century.
In 1957, it faced a second move — 500 meters inland to Krestovaya Pad — to escape flooding caused by the newly constructed Irkutsk Hydroelectric Power Station.
Today, this historic landmark remains an active place of worship and a testament to Siberia’s spiritual heritage.
Chersky Stone Viewpoint Located at 728 meters (2,388 feet) above sea level, offers a breathtaking view of Lake Baikal. The point is named after Ivan Chersky, a Polish-Russian geologist whose research has greatly improved our understanding of the lake. You can get here by walking along a picturesque 1-kilometer trail from the ski resort parking lot, or by cable car, which is an adventure in itself with panoramic views. From the top you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama: the southern surface of Lake Baikal, sparkling like a sapphire, the winding Circum-Baikal Railway, the source of the Angara River with the mysterious Shaman Stone.
Your trip can be supplemented with unique experiences. Visit the Nerpinarium, where intelligent Baikal seals demonstrate their skills in a show. For nature lovers, there is horseback riding through the taiga forests filled with the scent of pine needles. You can see Listvyanka from a new angle on the Ferris wheel, and take a boat ride to get closer to the crystal-clear waters of Lake Baikal. The bravest can jump into the cool waters of the lake - a popular experience in summer. The programme is flexible: choose everything or focus on what interests you most.
After a busy day, the guide will accompany you to your hotel, railway station or Irkutsk airport. This is convenient both for guests continuing their journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway and for those flying to other cities.
